Wolters Kluwer Health Awards College of Notre Dame of Maryland Facts & Comparisons® Academic Partnership Program Advancement of Clinical Education Curriculum Grant

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Dec. 14, 2010 – Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that it has named the College of Notre Dame of Maryland School of Pharmacy as the winner of the 2010 Facts & Comparisons® Academic Partnership Program Advancement of Clinical Education (ACE) Curriculum Grant. The school will receive a $10,000 grant for use in developing drug information and/or pharmacy informatics curriculum.

The college intends to utilize the grant to implement the Pharmacist Care Lab, a course focused on drug information, the design of which was spearheaded by Dr. Sharon Park, PharmD, BCPS, Assistant Professor, Clinical and Administrative Sciences. An integrated skills-based laboratory, Pharmacist Care Lab is designed to provide students with the ability to apply the dynamic skills necessary to make or alter clinical decisions that are directly related to patient care, as well as to assess outcomes based on the application of drug information skills in clinical practice. The lab will be administered over the course of six semesters.

“We are very excited about the awarding of this grant to the College of Notre Dame School of Pharmacy and we are appreciative of the leadership of Dr. Park in designing the drug information component of the curriculum,” said Dr. Anne Lin, PharmD, Dean and Professor, College of Notre Dame School of Pharmacy. “Drug information skills are critical in the practice of pharmacy and this grant gives us the opportunity to integrate and take a creative approach in teaching drug information.”

Wolters Kluwer Health established the ACE Curriculum Development Grant to promote quality pharmacy education and continued educational improvement through increased drug information knowledge. It also fosters increased awareness of referential drug information resources and enhanced referential tool utilization.

The College of Notre Dame of Maryland was selected from a pool of applicants based on the degree to which the proposed project would enhance its drug information education and/or foster improved clinical communication between pharmacists, patients and other clinicians through the use of current drug information tools. To be eligible for the grant, schools had to be current members of the Facts & Comparisons Academic Partnership Program.
