HealthPlan Services Taps James Vertino as CIO

TAMPA, Fla. – April 21, 2011 – HealthPlan Services (HPS), the nation’s leading technology and administrative services provider for the insurance and managed care markets, has appointed James Vertino as chief information officer (CIO) and executive vice president of technology.

Vertino brings to HPS more than 17 years of experience in all aspects of IT management and development. He is a proven leader in designing and implementing enterprise technology architectures and developing and executing successful technology strategies that support productivity improvements, efficiency enhancements and business development.

Prior to joining HPS, Vertino served as vice president of systems and technology and acting CIO for CareSource, where he was responsible for directing all aspects of the formation and execution of the healthcare IT corporate strategy. Previous positions include vice president of enterprise technology for MetLife, where he orchestrated the development, implementation, maintenance and support of the domestic emerging technology infrastructure. He also served as vice president and chief administration officer of Equity Technologies at Lehman Brothers and project manager for Dun & Bradstreet.

Vertino graduated magna cum lade from Medaille College in Buffalo, N.Y., with a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems. He is a member of the Managed Care Executive Group (MCEG), Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) and Dayton Area CIO Council.
