DENVER, CO (Nov. 12, 2013) — Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that SummaCare has selected its Health Language® applications to aid with the complex transition to ICD-10. As part of its readiness strategies for the approaching deadlines, the health insurance company will leverage LEAP I-10 and Provider Friendly Terminologies to ensure successful compliance.

SummaCare will use Health Language solutions to convert ICD-9 codes and DRGs to ICD-10 and to assist with problem and diagnosis search, ensuring compliance with regulatory initiatives and promoting interoperability. Built on a foundation of analytics, LEAP I-10 will also be used to help identify other content mapping needs that may impact interactions with providers and accountable care organizations.

“SummaCare recognizes the critical need for a solid technology foundation to address the far-reaching impact of ICD-10 as well as to prepare for the looming regulatory landscape,” said Dennis Pijor, senior vice president at SummaCare. “Drawing on the advanced technological infrastructure of Health Language to support standardization of medical terminologies helps position us for success with the challenges ahead.”

Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, SummaCare is one of the region’s only provider-owned health insurance companies. The company is part of Summa Health System, one of the largest integrated health delivery systems in Ohio which encompasses a network of hospitals, community health centers, a physician-hospital organization, a multi-specialty physician organization, research and multiple foundations.

“Effectively navigating the industry’s mammoth ICD-10 transition requires a level of advanced analytics processes and mapping strategies that many healthcare organizations are not prepared to address,” said Brian McDonald, Vice President, Health Language, Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “Health Language provides the foundation needed to effectively address numerous initiatives amid an increasingly demanding regulatory environment, as well as position organizations for the future of health information exchange.”
