UpToDate Recognized by Belgium’s INAMI/RIZIV as Continuing Medical Education Resource

Posted in Press Releases on Thursday, December 03, 2015.

The Health division of Wolters Kluwer, a leading global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, announced today that UpToDate®, its acclaimed clinical decision support resource, is accepted as a Continuing Medical Education (CME)/Continuing Professional Development (CPD) resource by Belgium’s National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (l’Institut National d'Assurance Maladie Invalidité (INAMI) / Rijksinstituut voor Ziekte- en Invaliditeitsverzekering (RIZIV)). Physicians in Belgium can earn CME/CPD credits while using UpToDate to answer clinical questions.

Searching clinical information in UpToDate helps doctors stay current with changes in medical practice and recommended treatments across 22 specialties. Belgian physicians can use the time they already spend researching clinical questions with UpToDate toward continuing professional development requirements at no extra cost and with no additional testing.

The Institute’s accrediting group (Accrediteringsstuurgroep (ASG) /le groupe de direction de l’accréditation (GDA)) recognizes programs like UpToDate that offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians may submit their credits earned from UpToDate toward their CME/CPD requirements. Each learning cycle accumulates 0.5 credits and there is no limit to the number of credits physicians may submit toward their requirements.

Using UpToDate to fulfill CME/CPD requirements is easier than ever at Belgian hospitals and institutions where UpToDate Anywhere is available. Physicians can access UpToDate on mobile devices using award-winning mobile apps. UpToDate may also be integrated in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, which streamlines both the clinical workflow and access to CME/CPD.

“The volume of medical knowledge is constantly increasing, but the time to keep up with changing and evolving information is not. One of the most effective ways to stay current is by putting new clinical knowledge immediately into practice with patients,” says Denise Basow, MD, President & CEO, Clinical Effectiveness, Wolters Kluwer. “Clinicians in Belgium have a seamless and easily accessible way to earn continuing medical education credits while they use UpToDate to answer clinical questions at the point of care.”
