ProVation Medical Clients Positioned for Easier ICD-10 Transition

5/5/09

ProVation software for procedure documentation and coding puts healthcare organizations ahead of the curve in switch to expanded code set.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – As the eventual cost and scope of the switch to ICD-10 becomes clear, Wolters Kluwer Health announces that users of its ProVation® Medical software are well-positioned to transition to the new code set with minimal expense, training or disruption of workflow. Answering the call for healthcare technology vendors to play a proactive role in the switch to ICD-10, the award-winning ProVation® MD procedure documentation and coding software is ready to accommodate the expanded code sets, and its implementation and training teams are prepared to support client organizations throughout the transition process.

After originally proposing a 2011 deadline, HHS has set a 2013 compliance deadline for the adoption of ICD-10 by U.S. healthcare organizations. Despite the two-year reprieve, healthcare organizations are already putting together their transition budgets and plans, a critical element of which is working with their technology vendors to ensure software and systems are ready for the switch.
According to a recent College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) survey, 55% of hospital CIOs said they expected vendor readiness and cooperation to be one of the top hurdles in achieving ICD-10 compliance. Yet 72% did not know if their vendors would include ICD-10 in annual software upgrades, and 60% said their vendors had not alerted them to implementation timelines.

“Provider organizations have called upon the vendor community to help them through the costly and complex ICD-10 transition process” said Arvind Subramanian, President & CEO, Wolters Kluwer Health Clinical Solutions and ProVation Medical. “We have been fully prepared to answer the call for years, thanks to the flexibility of the ProVation MD coding engine, which automatically generates CPT and ICD codes based on physician documentation.”

“The move to ICD-10 will take tremendous effort, and we are definitely looking to our vendors to help ease the transition – through product innovation, training, and customer service.” said ProVation user Lisa Doreen, RHIT, Revenue Manager, Duke University Health System.

“Computer Assisted Coding solutions like ProVation MD and ProVation MultiCaregiver software will help ease the burden for healthcare organizations by automating the documentation and coding process while reducing the need for extensive clinician training.”

“ProVation Medical has always supported our solutions with world-class customer service to ensure our clients continue to receive optimal benefits from our documentation and coding solutions,” said Subramanian. “As a company, we are committed to helping our clients achieve ICD-10 compliance in a way that does not require the diversion of valuable financial and human resources away from their mission of providing safe, high-quality patient care.”

ProVation MD software for procedure documentation and coding compliance replaces dictation/transcription and streamlines the coding and billing process. Driven by deep medical content, ProVation MD allows clinicians to quickly and completely document medical procedures and apply the appropriate CPT and ICD codes, as well as CCI edits.
