Metcare of Florida Deploys Informed Decisions’ eMPOWERx E-Prescribing Patient Care System

8/6/2008

TAMPA, Fla. – (Aug. 6, 2008) – Informed Decisions, LLC, a leading developer of drug information applications and clinical information solutions, and Metcare of Florida, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Metropolitan Health Networks, Inc. (AMEX: MDF) have entered an agreement to deploy eMPOWERx, Informed Decisions’ electronic prescribing and patient care system, to physicians in Metcare’s provider services network.

Under the agreement, participating physicians will utilize eMPOWERx for e-prescribing, as well as to access integrated drug information, drug-drug interaction screening tools and real-time patient medication histories. Physicians will have point-of-care access by using wireless tablet computers to connect to the secure eMPOWERx website.

“Metcare of Florida has a long-standing commitment to quality, a significant part of which is giving our physicians and affiliates access to the tools, cost, and productivity benefits associated with e-prescribing,” said Jose A. Guethon, M.D., MBA, President, Metcare of Florida. “Deployment of the eMPOWERx e-prescribing and patient care system is also the first step in our plans to implement a fully integrated electronic medical record system and to achieve certification from the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient Centered Medical Home.”

Metcare owns and operates nine primary care physician practices and a medical oncology physician practice, and is affiliated with 30 primary care physician practices, as well as specialist physicians, ancillary service providers, and hospitals throughout South and Central Florida.

“By deploying eMPOWERx, Metcare is providing its physicians with more than just e-prescribing capabilities. It is arming them with clinical decision support tools and an unprecedented depth of drug information that will result in more informed care decisions, better coordination of care, reduced costs and improved health outcomes,” said Kathy Mosbaugh, Executive Vice President, Informed Decisions.
